I was supposed to perform at the Botanical Gardens for the band. For some unknown reason I chose to watch instead. But what the heck.
Had physics tuition from 2 pm to 4 pm. After that I was asking myself if I should go and perform Even though I was supposed to reach School by 2 pm. In the end I chose not to perform because I wanted to see the Band's standard. I was in for a shocker.
I was searching for the Symphony Stage (or something by that name) where the performances are held. I reached the entrance to the Botanical Gardens at 5.30 after dashing across Orchard MRT to catch 174. I had to follow tracks, refer to maps for 20 minutes before I heard the brasses playing "Master Of the House".
Ah so the performance kicked off with the Primary School Band playing 2 pieces. I was one of the few Sec 4s not performing but present as the audience. I was sitting on a yellow mat with Mr Heng and Ms Wong next to me.
* Mr Heng has just returned from China. To read about his adventures there, visit his blog.
During the Concert Band's move down the stage, Mr Heng was commenting about how some of those twerps carried their music score in a most unprofessional way.
But the CHSSB's performance was well, not so good either. But then maybe that was because the Sec 1s were making their debut. But overall, I can only say that there is much room for improvement.
Tzung Siang also turned up to watch the performance. Also the Concert Band percussion alumni (Kenneth and Lionel) turned up.
*FYI: Kenneth scored 279 for PSLE, just 2 points behind the top student. Smart boy. He got into RI through DSA for GPE. Darn smart boy.
OFF TOPIC.
Went back to School for debrief. I got the BEST news for band: No practices for 2 weeks!!! Ok. On the bright side we can focus on our studies. On the flip side, We only have 1 week before another performance comes up. And this concert is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than today's. We are having a joint concert with a Russian string ensemble AND a SWEDISH band. (*NOTE: NOT SWEDEN BAND)
Tomorrow kicks off the Extra Lessons. For 9 days, from 8 am the 345 students in the Sec 4 Cohort will attend extra lessons in school at various locations. Some have extra lessons, others have tests.
Alright. Here we go.
still underachieving
