CHS Drama Fest 2007

Yesterday was Drama Fest at Victoria Theatre. I went down with Fei Yang and Brandon Tanoto for the event and got $20 tickets for half the price.

Thomas had said that $20 tickets were the best because they offer the best view at the lowest price. He was quite right.



But before we could even get to our seats we noticed a few kids who were already there. Turned out it was the boys from China who were "instructed by our teacher to sit there" Fortunately they weren't so unreasonable and gave us our rightful seats.




Many teachers supported the event, including Mr Krishnan who was sitting behind me with his daughter. Other teachers include Mr Tan and...


So the show got underway.



The first part was a show of pure idiocy. The people performing with Afanti AKA 阿凡提were downright lame especially with that stupid plastic donkey they brought in from the area at the path under the secondary school GO. To add on to the ridicule, they had to get the donkey to rappel from the top of the stage, a scene which reminds me of the Concrete Donkey. Worms anyone?

To top it off, add an ugly background in the form of a country's map in order to promote that country.

Then we were SUPPOSED to watch the Modern Dance, which I thought would have been a great reprieve for us to watch something that is not an insult to our intelligence.

Turned out that the MD people never came because, according to the MC, one bunch of them got injured during a performance the previous night. I was like, WTF? I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!

*According to close sources, there was a bust-up between 2 key members in the group. Hence the show was cancelled.

Instead we were treated to a piano recital by a Sec 1 boy from the school. The recital, according to Terrence, was not THAT amazing either.


Then came the Primary School EL Drama performance, something about "Row Row Row Your Boat". It makes me cry out for a refund. The 3 narrators look like the 3 little pigs and the supposed boatmen looked like "Warriors from Troy" to Fei Yang.





The Chinese Drama entitled 狐假虎威 was OK. But our wolf looked like a mascot for Manchester United in his red suit and the lion looked like a caveman instead. Our monkeys looked like Chip and Dale and the rabbits, well, forget it. Yet, they're just kids aren't they? But here are some pictures.

Finally some extra professionalism by the secondary site.

The SL's dance was quite OK but someone noticed that one of the 6 was out of place. But overall it was pretty well choreographed.

I am quite amused at Mrs Loh being 阿凡提's sister though.

The CL Drama was pretty good. Sadly the plot was quite predictable since a teacher told us about it in his diatribes during his lessons about how they only got a silver for their performance. But still, the plot was quite a satire of the society today.


Finally...

THE ENGLISH DRAMA!!
The reason why I even bothered coming down last night.

A great performance. Definitely. 'Nuff said. The audience's reaction from the whipping to sending of Boxer to his doom to seeing the blocks tumble on Melphin aka Boxer was quite beyond my expectation. I was also shocked. Never did I expect them to flail the cast.




And so it was over.
