My cousin lost 3 of her friends to a car crash on Friday night. They were 16-17 (in Indonesia 17 is the legal driving age).
Her reaction was quick. She wrote a message on her brother's FB wall, telling him to be careful when driving and to take care (he's studying in the USA) on the road.
But that's not the main point of this post. Rather, it's about how we often fail to treasure the friends that we have around us, and by extension, our family too. And more importantly, how life is so short and impermanent.
I'm not sure how I would react if I lose 3 friends overnight. That's because I tend to forget to cherish them while they're still around and because I've never, thankfully, experienced anything like it.
But I'm not sure how you'll react if I happen to be the trio in the car.
Not that I(t) matter(s). Just ask everyone.
